Former President Donald Trump says he coordinated with Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk to get Starlink internet to areas that were impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Trump and Musk have truly made their relationship apparent over the past few months, with the former President even saying he wants to have the Tesla frontman in his administration in some capacity.
Today in Georgia, Trump said that he spoke to Musk about getting Starlink up and running in states that were affected by the recent Hurricane Helene, which killed more than 100 people in the southeastern United States.
Trump said:
“I just spoke to Elon. We want to get Starlink hooked up because they have no communication whatsoever, and Elon will always come through…We are going to try to get the Starlink in there as soon as possible.”
Starlink has been a major piece of the puzzle for many rural areas, providing high-speed internet access to people in places where bandwidth is relatively low.
Over the past year, SpaceX has also brought Starlink to other things, including maritime applications, airplanes, and even in emergency situations where infrastructure has been impacted.
FEMA is already sending Starlink terminals to those affected by the Hurricane in North Carolina. This all comes after the FCC rejected Starlink as a candidate for $900 million in subsidies because it “failed to meet program requirements.”
