1、What is PoE ?
PoE stands for Power over Ethernet. It is also known as Ethernet power supply. PoE Injector allows devices to receive power over the twisted-pair Ethernet cable while simultaneously transmitting data, eliminating the need for additional power cables. This reduces the complexity of wiring, making the entire setup cleaner and more aesthetically pleasing, while also saving on wiring costs.
2、How does PoE work ?
The working principle of PoE is as follows: for devices that require simultaneous power and data transmission, current enters the Ethernet cable at the power supply side via a component known as an injector and flows out at the device end. Through Ethernet, power current and data signals are transmitted separately, ensuring no interference between them. If the device at the other end of the cable is PoE-compatible, it operates without any modification. If it is not PoE-compatible, a component known as a picker or tap must be installed to extract current from the cable, which is then delivered to the operating device.
3、Drawbacks of PoE ?
- Outage:PoE can connect multiple devices; however, if one device encounters an issue, it can affect all other connected devices.
- Power Limits:PoE only supports low-power devices, generally below 30W. If higher-power devices are needed, a higher standard like IEEE 802.3bt (PoE++) is required.
- Distance Limits:PoE has a distance limitation of 100 meters. If this distance is exceeded, a PoE extender or other solutions should be considered.
4、Starlink PoE Injector's Benefits of EDUP ?
Before developing the Starlink PoE product, we conducted extensive research on the strengths and weaknesses of all existing PoE products in the market. Additionally, based on the external environment in which Starlink devices are used and the potential needs of users, we performed a large number of rigorous physical tests (such as lightning protection tests, surge tests, electrostatic tests, water spray tests, electromagnetic interference resistance tests, etc.) and conducted continuous reliability testing for no less than 1,000 hours in real-world conditions. The data upload and download remained stable, with only a 1.13% fluctuation in speed.
