Celebrating Five Years of Starlink: From the First Customer to 7 Million and Counting

Five years ago today, Starlink connected its first paying customer, marking the beginning of a new era in internet connectivity from space. What started as a bold promise now reaches over 7 million users across about 150 countries, territories, and markets

The milestone isn’t just about numbers—it’s about changing how and where people connect. From remote farms and mountain cabins to ships at sea and recovery teams in disaster zones, Starlink’s low-Earth orbit satellite network has delivered high-speed, low-latency internet to places where traditional infrastructure simply couldn’t reach. This broad deployment has helped bridge the connectivity gap for millions.

Growth has been rapid. In the past year alone, Starlink expanded into dozens of new countries and added millions of new customers, accelerating its global footprint. This pace reflects not just demand, but the agility of satellite internet technology to scale quickly and adapt to diverse environments.

Looking forward, the journey continues. With plans for even more satellites, stronger performance, and expanded service tiers—including mobile, maritime, and enterprise use cases—Starlink is setting the stage for a future where internet access is virtually universal. For the millions already connected, and the many more to come, the next five years may be as transformative as the first.

Thank you to all the customers who have joined along the way—here’s to the journey ahead.
